I had a strange sense of Deja Vu as I watched the self-congratulatory rhetoric on the house floor tonight, and I feel compelled to offer this warning from the Left Coast.
Three years ago, I stood on the floor of the California Senate and watched a similar celebration over a similar bill, AB 32. And I have spend the last three years watching as that law has dangerously deepened California’s recession. It uses a different mechanism than Cap and Trade, but the objective is the same: to force a dramatic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
Up until that bill took effect, California’s unemployment numbers tracked very closely with the national unemployment rate. But then in January of 2007, California’s unemployment rate began a steady upward divergence from the national jobless figures. Today, California’s unemployment rate is more than two points above the national rate, and at its highest point since 1941.
What is it that happened in January of 2007? AB 32 took effect and began shutting down entire segments of California’s economy. Let me give you one example from my district. The City of Truckee, California was about to sign a long-term power contract to get its electricity from a new, EPA-approved coal-fired electricity plant in Utah. AB 32 and companion legislation caused them to abandon that contract. The replacement power they acquired literally doubled their electricity costs.
So when economists warn that we can expect electricity prices to double under the cap and trade bill, I can tell you from bitter experience that in my district, that’s not a future prediction, that is an historical fact.
Gov. Schwarzenegger assured us that AB 32 would mean an explosion of new, green jobs — exactly the same promises we’re hearing from cap and trade supporters. In California, exactly the opposite has happened. We have lost so many jobs that the UCSB economic forecast is now using the D-word – Depression – to discuss California’s job market.
M. Speaker, the Cap and Trade bill proposes what amounts to endlessly increasing taxes on any enterprises that produce carbon dioxide or other so-called greenhouse gas emissions. We need to understand what that means. It has profound implications for agriculture, construction, cargo and passenger transportation, energy production, baking and brewing – all of which produce enormous quantities this innocuous and ubiquitous compound. In fact, every human being produces 2.2 pounds of carbon dioxide every day – just by breathing.
So applying a tax to the economy designed to radically constrict carbon dioxide emissions means radically constricting the economy.
And this brings us to the fine point of it.
When you discuss the folly of the Hoover Administration – how it turned the recession of 1929 into the depression of the 1930’s, the first thing that economists point to is the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act that imposed new taxes on over 20,000 imported products.
Waxman Markey is our generation’s Smoot Hawley. In fact, it’s worse because it imposes new taxes on an infinitely larger number of domestic products on a scale that utterly dwarfs Smoot-Hawley.
Let’s ignore for the moment the fact that the planet’s climate is constantly changing and that long term global warming has been going on since the last ice age. Let’s ignore the fact that within recorded history we know of periods when the earth’s climate has been much warmer than it is today and others when it has been much cooler. Let’s ignore the thousands of climate scientists and meteorologists who have concluded that human-produced greenhouse gases are a negligible factor in global warming or climate change.
Ignore all of that and still we are left with one lousy sense of timing. In the most serious recession since the Great Depression – why would members of this house want to repeat the same mistakes that produced that Great Depression? Watching how California has just wrecked its economy and destroyed its finances, why would they want to do the same thing to our nation?
M. Speaker, this is deadly serious stuff. It transcends ideology and politics. This House has just made the biggest economic mistake since the days of Herbert Hoover.
If this measure becomes law, two things are certain.
First, our planet will continue to warm and cool as it has been doing for billions of years.
Second: Congress will have delivered a staggering blow to our nation’s economy at precisely that moment when that economy was the most vulnerable.
Why do I sense this is like a prediction of a prophet ?
Why do we ignore the lessons of history and all common sense ?
Again I ask, was the “Great Depression” not great enough for us ? Must we do it again ?

I am trying to figure out what happened to dialogue in America and to Americans in the past three elections. When President GW Bush won in 2000 we had to endure the repeated calls of a stolen election. We were later barraged by “Bush lied people died” type slogans. The vitriol from the left was incessant for the remainder of his two terms. I was not one who would have said that my fellow Americans had no right to those views. Believe what you want was my take.
In 2009 after BH Obama took office, he told the American people “I Won” when his support for the “stimulus” bill was being questioned for it’s obvious waste of hundreds of billions of our dollars.
“I won” or “he won” or “we won you lost” has become the rallying cry of the left to stifle any open debate. We have been told we shouldn’t listen to Rush. We have been told there is no need for further debate. The MSM covers up the thousands who protest at tea parties and paints their objective as racist rather then the truth which was anti-spending.
I have been on twitter since March of 2009, and the consistent theme I see from those who do not agree with someone stating their beliefs on various topics is “he won“. People are told to “STFU”; “Get over it”; “get a life”. And this is supposed to be the end of the discussion. No legitimate counter arguments are offered. People will so easily tell their fellow Americans to shut up and then block any further messages from you if you try to offer them any of your arguments. It is certainly their right to block someone from their account for whatever reason they choose. But the implication is that you have no right to state and support your position or offer any relevant data that supports your position.
What happened to the 1st amendment after January 22, 2009? Are we no longer allowed to freely speak our minds about our concerns or listen to dialogue as we see fit?
I personally don’t mind if someone wishes to believe whatever suits them. I support their right to express it. But STFU and go away was not the way Americans conducted dialogue that I recall prior to 2000. It is telling to me that the first right some will be happy to surrender is the 1st amendment right to free speech, our most basic constitutional rights.
Well I would prefer to hold on to all of the enumerated rights granted to us, and I choose not to STFU. But thanks anyhow.

We are told it will “reduce costs” when it won’t. We are told we have no other options, when we do. We have no apparent ability to stop it. But we do have a choice and stop it we must. For if Americans fail to prevent this then it will, with out any doubt, pave the way for future statists to fundamentally intrude on every aspect of our liberties at their own whim. Our freedom to direct our own health choices will forever more be under direct assault if the health care industry is controlled by the statist agenda. This has been the ultimate goal of the socialist party in many countries for many decades. We must ask ourselves why that is. Understand that any life choice that we make, from the car we drive, the place we choose to live, to our chosen profession can be linked in some way in the mind of any meddling bureaucrat to having impact on health risk. Their goal is to limit health costs by limiting health risks, and therefore by limiting any number of our liberties. Just growing old could be written into laws as a risk to the government’s cost of health care. Please consider this very carefully and make your choice known in the US Congress unambiguously and as soon as possible.
Why we have to constantly fight for the liberties and the limits to government that are so clearly laid out in the US Constitution is simply incomprehensible. But the statist simply does not care what limits there are, if Americans themselves to not stand up for their right to enforce those limits. Now is the time to call and write your representatives. Later will be far too late. This will never be undone once passed. But it will be forever expanded upon as a statist tool.
If you believe that this proposed health plan is meant to give us a “choice” in health insurance like Obama stated to the AMA on June 15, 2009, please understand that this is another bold faced lie to get us to go along. Surprise surprise! Who would have ever thought that in this day and age our economy would have any reliance upon what private investors do. Surely there will be some Government program devised soon to remove this burdensom reliance. Meanwhile, is anyone besides Rachel Beck at AP and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke shocked about this result? Could this outcome not have been predicted by ANY of these financial “wizards” on Mr. Obama’s top notch Harvard economic dream team? Why, me and the people I converse with don’t know anything about economics compared to this crew; we’re just a group of fear mongers. Obama must be checking over all those pesky numbers again and again in his “plan to rescue the economy”. Surely someone has missed something here and when he finds out who he will, no doubt, fire them too. It’s got to be those dastardly bond traders! Don’t you just love a good mystery?
So here begins the super bounce. Sure, the mortgage rates fluctuated downward slightly for a short while. But, while already at historic lows, most people I know could not take advantage of these low rates due to the sudden disappearing act of home equity values. Now there’s a mystery worth looking into. That was only the precursor to this nightmare. The ball has just hit the floor. The rates have now risen to over 6% and will no doubt seek higher and higher ground in a relative short time span with little chance of looking back in this decade or even the next. Why? It’s really quite simple; DEBT. How high can that little ball bounce? That nobody knows, but they say the sky’s the limit. Say a big hello to Inflation and get used to it being in our daily reality, since it will be staying with us for quite a long time. It might even get the cute little name “Hyper”. Stock up the cabinets now, because inflation born of this kind of debt is really hungry and it eats a LOT! Better get some more popcorn while it’s still a bargain at only $4.50 a bag.
Do you think our Democrat led Government will finally learn that it cannot finance an economic recovery by printing and spending trillions of dollars in public debt? Do you think they will learn to stop meddling in the “affordable” housing market anytime soon? Nah! I suspect the really hard lessons have barely just begun. This administration would fail an open book test on economics 101 (1980’s revision, not the Harvard Keynesian edition). And besides, they’re not nearly done yet; they still have health care insurance to totally “change”.
Up next …. Taxes! - LOTs of New Taxes. Only for the “Top 5%” you say? That was a dream, born of a bold faced lie commonly referred to by it’s slogan as “Hope and Change“. Look for more state taxes, medical insurance taxes, energy taxes, and disappearing tax cuts of those ‘dreadful’ days gone by, just to name a few. That folks, is statist liberal democrat politics 101. And so many thought “change” was free. Sorry to tell you that only the “hope” and the little rubber super ball was free. Oh look, the popcorn just went up to $6.95 a bag. Drat! The true “long-form” birth certificate – which includes information like the name of the birth hospital and attending physician – is the only document that can prove Obama was born in Hawaii, but to date he has not permitted its release for public or press scrutiny.

Contrary to what you may have read, no document made available to the public, nor any statement by Hawaiian officials, evidences conclusively that Obama was born in Hawaii.
A. Associated Press reported about a statement of Hawaii Health Department Director Dr. Fukino, “State declares Obama birth certificate genuine.”
B. That October 31, 2008 statement says that Dr. Fukino “ha[s] personally seen and verified that the Hawai’i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures.“ That statement does not, however, verify that Obama was born in Hawaii, and as explained above, under Hawaiian policies and procedures it is quite possible that Hawaii may have a birth record of a person not born in Hawaii. Unlikely, but possible.
I would also add that no known official electoral regulatory committee nor court is presently known to have seen BH Obama’s “long form” birth certificate to date.

This is what I have been trying to tell everyone, and all I get back is it’s all Bush’s fault.

But GW Bush approved only half ($350 Bil) of the original TARP funds and some corporate bailouts be spent during the last half of the last year (2008) of his term. Let us not loose sight of the fact that our bailout mania problems just began in September of ‘08 and GWB only had 3 months to wrack up a $475 Billion deficit. Prior to that I was asking my wife if it might be a good idea to buy a rental home because prices were becoming attractive and interest was reasonable. This was weeks before the term “Financial Crisis” fell onto our political landscape. Little did I know that the sky was about to fall right behind that term and I’d be hiding our money under the mattress within 3 months. This begs the critical question of how did this “crisis” happen to befall us just two short months before an election, but I should refrain from digressing too much.
So all this spending that has come after that appears to have been approved (signed into Law) by none other than President BH Obama since his inauguration on January 22, 2009. Let us count the ways …
$350 Billion of the rest of TARP
$787 billion stimulus package
$410 Billion ‘Omnibus’ Spending Bill for FY ‘09
$3.6 Trillion budget for FY ‘10
That totals to $5.1 Trillion by my count in NEW spending approved by President BH Obama since he took office in January. There have also been other bailouts for public companies which I am not counting here because I am losing track of them all.
According to a Bloomberg article on May 14, 2009 in a town-hall meeting in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, outside Albuquerque, President BH Obama spoke and called current deficit spending “unsustainable” and warned of skyrocketing interest rates for consumers if the U.S. continues to finance government by borrowing from other countries. Well Duah ! That is indeed what we should be bracing for folks; skyrocketing interest and super inflation!
He went on to say “We can’t keep on just borrowing from China, We have to pay interest on that debt, and that means we are mortgaging our children’s future with more and more debt.” Holders of U.S. debt will eventually “get tired” of buying it, causing interest rates on everything from auto loans to home mortgages to increase, Obama said. “It will have a dampening effect on our economy.” Well Duah again !
Amazingly, he also said the following:
“Most of what is driving us into debt is health care, so we have to drive down costs, It’s time for reform that’s built on transparency, accountability, and mutual responsibility, values fundamental to the new foundation we seek to build for our economy.”
Pardon me, but the health care costs for the US Population on medicare and medicaid did not suddenly sky rocket upwards in excess of $5 Trillion dollars since one year ago. And his call for “transparency, accountability, and mutual responsibility” should be directed toward himself, the current democrat led congress, and his administration who are the very people requesting and approving all of this new spending that is driving up the debt. I take some solace that he is at least now recognizing that this irrational spending spree and just the interest on the new debt alone is in fact “mortgaging our children’s future“, but isn’t now a little bit too late to be making that assessment of these actions taken in just the past 100+ days of HIS administration? If this fact of debt were truly a concern to BH Obama, then he could ask congress TODAY to prepare a bill to cancel the Stimulus package and not spend those funds. He could re-submit a budget for a paltry $1.5 Trillion for FY 2010 instead of $3.6 Trillion and put us back on a track at LEAST 3 times that of GWB’s deficits rather than closer to 9 times. The fact is there is NO current plan to deal with these deficits other than to have similar massive deficits in years 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Conservatives have already been stating this clear and obvious fact for quite some time now.

What if the US Congress proposed a bill tomorrow which read “Every US household with a roof shall pay a “roof tax” to the Federal Government in the amount of $1,600 per year.” Such a new tax would net our Government over $600 Billion more of OUR dollars per year. If you have a roof over your head, wouldn’t you be outraged? Would you call and write your Representative and Senator to express your outrage over such a stupid proposal?
Well folks, this is precisely what the “Cap and Trade” proposals presently being debated in our Congress is. It is a proposal for an energy tax for no better reason other than to raise new revenue for the Federal Government. There would be absolutely no benefit to anyone except the Government and it will result in each household paying $1,600 OR MORE in higher energy costs per year. All energy will be targeted from this proposal. Higher costs in electricity, natural-gas, heating oil, propane, and automotive gas WILL result. This will also result in far faster and greater price inflation of goods and services. Any business forced into this tax scheme will PASS THIS COST TO YOU. Folks, this could not be a worse idea in the history of bad ideas to come out of our Government. Such a spike in energy costs is certain to speed the onset of inflation in all sectors, which will undoubtedly mean massive job losses.
I urge you to call Congress and to call everyone you know and ask them to do the same to fight any attempt to even put the “Cap-and-Trade” proposals into a final bill or if it is and such a bill passes then this energy tax will never be gotten rid of and will cause great additional harm to our already battered economy. Please do not allow this proposal to even leave the House Committee. If this were to make it to our President, he would be more than happy to sign it so it can help pay for his massive spending. Please start calling and writing today!

But, somehow, there are far too many who remain blind or, rather, unwilling to see the danger that lies ahead while on this course. I am beginning to understand the reasons for their sightless views, but it makes it no less painful to bear witness to the terrible tragedy for us all that fast approaches on the horizon.

Why all this spending if not to bankrupt the nation?
President Obama, when shutting down opposition to portions of the “stimulus” bill, asserted to congressional Republicans “I won“.
This to me says all we need to know about what the result of the ballot counting in November means for the remaining time in this President’s term. As long as he has the votes in Congress, he can do whatever he wants to without the inconvenience of a debate.
His belief that he has a mandate by the people to do as he wishes is based simply on the result of that cold November day’s votes. The votes were cast, counted, and he indeed did win that count.
His arrogant stance, however, implies that “We the People” have no further say, and no further debate is necessary.
It seems to me that we do have many other ways of voting outside of the voting booth that could help advance the notion that “We the People” are still here and still have our voice.
If we are to awaken any opposition by the 2010 congressional elections, we must insure our voices register as loud as they can be heard.
Here are some ways to register our voice that have come to me so far.
I will try to expand this list as time goes on.
Tax Form Check Box: Presidential Election Campaign Fund
Do not check to indicate you or your spouse want $3 to go to this fund for the next three years.
Voter Registration:
Be sure to register; and re-register if you already are.
Despite whether you currently have a D or a R next to your name, if we could get all conservative minded individuals to register as an Independent until just before the 2010 primaries, this could send a strong signal to both political parties about our level of dissatisfaction.
Telephone Polls:
Since the election cycle has ended, not many of these polls are still being taken, but some still are. Refuse to take any tele-polls even during the next election cycle.
Mass Media:
The corporate owned Media believes that they own the results of this election.
I say, they should own it.
Tune Out and Turn Off the Media.
Cancel all News Paper and Media Magazine Subscriptions
Cancel any online subscriptions to Media Sites (Unless needed for your job)
Go WAY outside the booth and cancel Satellite and Cable.
Use the savings to buy a Wii and play games with your kids.

How else could We the People vote with our choices and our wallets to drive the message back to Washington DC that We the People stll count and still have voices. I suspect there must be at least a dozen more ways. I’ll keep thinking, and I hope some of you will help out.
After there is a sufficient list, an effort could be started to pick a day, say July 4th 2009, to Vote Outside the Booth.

When the day comes, as it will, when the conservative movement unites behind the right leader and puts him on course to enter the White House, the question will be raised: Can conservatives govern? It is a reasonable question, given the glaring missteps and failures of the Bush Administration.
The answer is simple: Of course conservatives can govern.
In 1947, a Republican Congress under the leadership of Senator Taft cut federal spending and taxes and helped lay the foundation for the successful foreign policy of containment.
In 1981, the Reagan Administration overcame the opposition of a Democratic House and passed the Economic Recovery Act, which cut marginal tax rates across the board and prepared the way for a period of unprecedented economic recovery lasting more than 20 years.
In 1996, a Republican Congress under House Speaker Newt Gingrich passed, over President Clinton’s veto, welfare reform which substituted work for welfare and enabled the states to reduce their welfare rolls by as much as 33 percent.
In 2001, the Bush Administration, working with a Republican Congress, enacted a monumental tax cut of $1.6 trillion–the largest in U.S. history–which kept the economy humming until the financial collapse of 2008.

The main cogs in this horrible machine were the 1999 passed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which eliminated The Glass-Steagall Act and the 1995 Private Securities Litigation Reform Act, both of which allowed Wall Street to run rampant.
Although I find much of this article a little tough to swallow - only because I have little way to verify any of it … this last part is worth seriously looking into.

The question of balanced budgets recently came up in conversation in the context of the observation that the “Democrat’s financial strategy” beginning in 1992 managed to “create a budget surplus” in Clinton’s second term years 1998-2000 and spilling over into George W. Bush’s first year 2001, and that therefore Democrats should be given the benefit of doubt to permit their “financial strategy” and to continue the financial wizardry that was interrupted by GWB. It was also pointed out to me that the Bush administration squandered the surplus and began the trend of deficit spending which, by extension, Mr. Obama is only having to continue due to the mess that was left to him.
What was totally left out of this conversation was that on September 11, 2001 our nation was attacked from abroad, and we went from a peace time dividend to a war time footing. I am always puzzled why this fact is so easily neglected.
In this decade’s context of Congress-Gone-Wild, the idea of a balanced budget seems like an impossibility again in our lifetime. What has so changed Washington’s incentive to reduce the extent to which they spend more than they receive in OUR taxes?
First, though, let us not loose sight of the most important point in this discussion;
It’s Not Their Money !
This question posed in this context leads us to the trap of left vs. right instead of the pillar of RIGHT vs. WRONG policy.

In summary; the process to balance the budget began by trying for the first time to raise revenues by lowering taxes, which resulted in higher economic growth and thus higher revenues from those lower percent taxes. Both people AND Government were seeing higher revenues. Also our country was ultimately able to begin reducing defense spending due to the steps taken to end the cold war with USSR. This all, of course, was begun by Ronald Reagan in 1981. But the economic results were not felt enough to stop the deficit spending in either of Reagan’s terms. But also begun by the Reagan administration was the showdowns with Congress that resulted in several Government shutdowns and produced the first of a series of legislative compromises aimed square at the goal of balancing the budget. George H. W. Bush also believed in lowering the deficits and took this a step further and was forced to backpedal on his campaign promise of no new taxes, but got from it additional legislative writ that ultimately led to the years of budget surplus.
Basically, working to take us off the conflict footing of the long cold war thus lowering defense spending, the economic growth from tax cuts, and forcing Congress to create budgetary constraints, all Republican Presidential initiatives, began the path that led to Clinton’s Democratic “victory” surplus.
There is certainly more to it. Google has the book online. If you click the link above and review pages 18 - 30 ish - you’ll get the whole story there. But what is clear is, this was not the result of Mr. Clinton’s genius financial planning. What saved Clinton was that he didn’t get his dream of Government run Health Care for all passed the Congress. Had he, deficits would not have mattered to him in the least bit.
What this answer to the question truly illustrates is that actions taken by one administration or congress usually is not fully felt economically until MUCH later. And this is what should worry us all about the actions of the present administration and congress.
Of course today, none of the budgetary constraints put in place beginning in 1981 appear to have any constraints on any political body in Washington DC. Why is this not the obvious question?
And as a reminder, the question of who pays the most and who pays the least of the taxes that our beloved government spends is illustrated here. What they spend OVER this revenue stream is our kid’s money!
But It’s Not Their Money ! Never forget that !!

I hope Rush will forgive me for posting this, but it is a remarkable speech that his late father Rush H. Limbaugh, Jr. had presented on several occasions. It highlights the great sacrifices that those who signed the Declaration of Independence endured for their “treason” against the British King. It is worth reading and considering the true cost of our freedom. If your parents held such views today, would they be viewed as patriots or as radicals by DHS or “teabaggers” by the MSM?
Let us all teach our children as wisely as Rush H. Limbaugh, Jr. taught his son.

Posted April 16, 2009 A Mom that Rocks ! What I did not like about the Phoenix Tea Party was that all the speeches were given by organizers and radio hosts and politicians. That was all fine, and I am not putting down our event at all because I think it was terrific! But too few average citizens had their chance to speak their minds. I think one of the best and most uplifting average citizen speeches I have seen came out of the Dallas Tea Party. I hope you will all view it, because she speaks what is in my own heart.

Last night, between 15,000 and 20,000 Georgians rallied in front of the State Capitol at the Atlanta Tea Party protest. And in case anyone hasn’t been paying attention, there’s a great deal worth protesting.
The past three months have seen orchestrated some of the biggest expansions of government power in history. The $700 billion Troubled Assets Relief Program has effectively given control of several major corporations directly to President Obama and his economic task force. The Congressional Budget Office recently reported that the $3.2 trillion budget would approximately double the national debt over the next decade; the next generation’s children may be born owing more than $40,000 to the government.
The tea (which stands for “taxed enough already”) parties — a grassroots protest movement helped along with some support from conservative groups and leaders like former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and former House Majority Leader Dick Armey — have united hundreds of thousands of Americans against this government expansion, as well as the inevitable tax hikes that will be needed to pay for that expansion.
It was an assembly of every race, social status, income level, religion and political party – Democrats, Libertarians, Independents and Republicans — that strongly feel that the government has been hijacked by the aggressive leftist policies of the new administration and years of irresponsible spending. These efforts, however, were overlooked by some mainstream media outlets or were mocked by others.
MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann featured a seemingly endless, immature line of “teabagging” puns, and CNN’s live coverage in Chicago was little more than parroting Obama’s stimulus rhetoric to incite a negative response from protesters. CNN’s Paul Begala was quick to write that the “taxation without representation” themes pulled from the revolutionary themes surround the tea party protests were bunk, and Begala even went so far as to accuse protesters of being unpatriotic: “They [protesters] voted in the election; they lost.” This reporting openly suggested that stereotypically unwashed, simple-minded conservative masses just don’t understand.
But these protesters understand a lot. America was founded on the principles of self-interest — the individual’s freedom to both improve his or her own conditions and determine his or her own fate.
The protesters believe that this freedom is under assault: Obama and congressional Democrats are promoting an ideology that is at odds with what they believe to be not only basic truths of economics but also our national sovereignty, personal integrity and ethical sensibilities.
Even this basic and fundamental freedom to protest, however, may come under fire from those sworn to uphold those rights. Missouri police officials disseminated instructions to their officers last month identifying individuals with third-party materials, including Ron Paul bumper stickers, as possible security risks.
The recent report compiled by Homeland Security Sec. Janet Napolitano identifying “right-wing extremists” as a growing threat for “lone wolf” terrorist activity and extremist groups specifically includes gun owners, proponents of immigration control, veterans and opponents of abortion, opinions supported by many of the protesters. Those who disagree with the administration, these reports suggest, could snap at any time and are a threat to national security.
This kind of absurd fear-mongering hasn’t been observed in America in generations. It is troublingly reminiscent of former President Woodrow Wilson’s suppression of dissent — outspoken anti-war activists such as Socialist presidential candidate Eugene Debs were jailed — and the formation of the American Protective League, which licensed civilians to conduct warrantless searches, seizures and arrests against those who spoke badly of government policy during World War I.
The expansion of government power and ideological censorship is not a threat, nor is it some great, monstrous bogey-man invented out of whole cloth by conservative talking heads.
It is a serious crisis that must be opposed, and for this reason opposition to the left’s unchecked “change” will continue to grow.
I only hope that those who were confused by these protests against Obama’s agenda now might better understand their views.

How much will it take ?
The year my mother was born - not even 50 Million people cast ballots for president. Franklin D. Roosevelt won 53% of the popular vote. In 2004, 121 million votes were cast for President. More people voted for each of the two candidates that year than there were total voters in 1944. In 2008, about 120 million people will likely again go cast ballots to select their leader. What will history tell us about this choice we make?
